Re: kde & printing

The daemon was running but nothing else worked. I coun't find a way to
set up a printer. There appeared to be a lot of missing files although
both apt-get and dpkg said everything was installed ok. I ended up
purging cups and re-installing magicfilter so I can at least print from
some programs.

After reading Steve's post I downloaded turboprint but have yet to
install it. I was waiting to see what Steve's results were. After trying
an upgrade of magicfilter and printtool and then trying cups I was in no
hurry to spend more time until I had some indication it wasn't a waste
of time.

The printer manager in kde 2.2.2 is a bit confusing also. It defaults to
generic but the printers also show up under lpr something or other. At
least I can see the details for the installed printer under that
section/grouping. Not sure what setting it should be on. I can print a
test page using the print manager but still have problems with kde apps.
