Re: Newbie - Star Office

John,

I too would suggest downloading the necessary files from the Sun site. If I
am not mistaken SO 6.0 has been released. On Mandrake I found SO to be kind
of slow and just a little iffy. I here that OpenOffice may also be a good
choice as well.

If you need help with the PPPoE just let me know! I know those instruction
are kind of long and they are are not the quickest way but it is important to
learn the terminal/console as you may need it inthe future. I actually like
use the terminal over the gui tools for installing. Now, for me it is just as
fast to work from the terminal as it would be to try and install/compile from
a combination of GUI and terminal.

I was helping someone one day on the, gag, Mandrakeuser site and then some of
the other board veterans came along and were giving instruction but some
didn't even know how to copy files via commandline! I don't know what would
happen if their GUI ever crashed! I would recommend taking a look around the
Debian site, I think they have basic command line lessons there somewhere. If
not there are many places on the net that have really excellent introductions
to using the command line.
