online and networking linux

i have linux installed and running, the computer has an onboard lan header that is listed in the linux network setup... what i need to know is how would i go about settign it up tio the internet.
on the same computer on a different hard drive i have windows ME that is networked and shares an internet connection. how would i go about getting the linix os onto the internet without disturbing the windows ME network?
