How to go online with DSL?
Hi there!
Being a satisfied Mandrake 7.1 user, I became more and more
unsatisfied after I had upgraded to 7.2, and I was just unable to
install 8.1 at all. So when I heard about LibraNet (hi Sarah!), I gave
LibraNet 1.9.1 it a try.
Problem #1 was that my promise IDE controller is not detected, so I
had to install onto another drive. I guess with a newer kernel this
will go fine? And I will be replacing my mainboard soon, with a VIA
KT266A chipset and an additional HPT372 IDE controller onboard, I hope
this will work.
But my main problem now is that I d not know how to go online. I can
configure my two network cards, but only to set a static IP for one,
and activate DHCP for the other. How do I enable DSL? Why is there no
option for it, despite the fact that the network config program says
it allows configuration of cable or dsl connections.
There is a pppoe, but no adsl-connect etc. scripts. Do I have to set
it up myself, getting some packages from freshmeat or debian.org or
such, or can I use stuff already installed or on the LibraNet CD?
Apart from that, LibraNet looks promising. Less features than
mandrake, but also less things broken, as far as I can tell by now. I
want a clean new Linux system, and maybe that's it.
